Performs a full range of maintenance and repairs on parking meters, including the rebuilding, overhauling and calibration of parking meters and installs and maintains installation and maintenance of meter signs.
Maintenance and repair principles of clocks and timers; Basic mechanical principles; Basic principles of electricity and electronic communications; Use of hand and power tools; Safe work practices and procedures; Basic computer programs using Windows operating systems; Effective customer service techniques.
Install, troubleshoot and repair electromechanical and electronic multi-space and single-space parking meters, parts and components; Perform accurate and precise repair work; Learn use and maintain computer software applications and proprietary inventory and maintenance databases systems; Analyze parking meter-related data for accuracy; Interpret and utilize meter maintenance manuals and guidelines; Understand and apply mechanical principles; Use power and hand tools and equipment; Maintain accurate records and reports; Operate a forklift; Lift and carry heavy objects up to and including 60 lbs; Work independently and use sound judgment in making decisions; Follow oral and written instructions.
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with City employees and the general public; Provide effective customer service.
Using small hand tools; Using a personal computer and applicable software applications.
Education, Training and Experience:
Graduation from high school or the equivalent. Successful completion of 30 semester units or the equivalent of college level or vocational school coursework in electronics repair and maintenance is desirable.
One year of recent, paid work experience maintaining and repairing electronic devices or small mechanical equipment involving small parts and accurate and precise repair work.
Licenses and Certificates:
Possession of a valid Class C driver license. A valid forklift operator's certificate must be obtained within six months of date of hire.
